Celebrating 15 years of God's grace!
My name is Marta.* I was born in Catano, Puerto Rico. My family came to New York City when I was 7. My early childhood was riddled with beatings from my mother and older siblings, sexual abuse from a trusted family member, and very cold winters. At the tender age of 12 I turned to drugs and alcohol to push down my hurt and loneliness. From all the emotional turmoil I developed a learning disability. My time spent in school was just another source of torment and degradation.
After two failed marriages, and two children, I wanted to change my life. For 7 years I worked with a psychotherapist. She suggested I attend alcoholics anonymous, which I did. I also attended Overcomers Outreach which is a Christ-centered 12 step-group at The Father’s Heart Ministries. I opened my heart to Jesus for the first time and He saved me from myself and my unraveling life.
I first started attending The Father’s Heart Ministries to be part of the Overcomers Outreach meeting. When I first met Pastor Perry at that meeting I was impressed by his loving manner. I felt the same acceptance from all the other pastors and members as well. The Father’s Heart Church has been a blessing to my life and my continued spiritual growth in Christ.
